Vet ReadyAn independent guide for pet owners
About

What this is, and what it is not

Vet Ready is an independent guide to taking an animal to the vet. It is written to be read before the appointment, not instead of it.

The aim is narrow and, we hope, useful: explain what actually happens at a veterinary practice so that owners walk in prepared, ask better questions, and understand the bill they are handed.

What you will find here

Seventeen guides, arranged in the order a visit happens. The night before, the carrier, the car, the waiting room, the table, the tests, and the invoice. Alongside them sits a three-tier urgency guide — ring now, same day, book routine — built from the signs owners actually describe when they phone.

Everything is evergreen. There are no dates on these pages because nothing here depends on the season, and a guide to what a blood panel is looking for does not go out of fashion.

What you will not find here

We are not a veterinary practice. Nobody here can examine your animal, and nothing on this site is advice about your animal. There are no appointments to book, no drug doses, no home remedies, and no page that tells you a sign is safe to leave until morning. Where a topic could be read as encouraging delay, we say plainly that it warrants a call.

Costs are described, never quoted. Practices set their own fees and those fees move; what does not move is what sits inside each line of an estimate, and that is what we explain.

How it is funded

Supporters appear on the noticeboard in reception and in the footer. They pay to be there and nothing else — no supporter sees a page before it is published, and no supporter has ever changed a word of one. Sponsors have no say in what this guide says.
